Call Script

I’m calling to urge you fix the large problem of voter disenfranchisement in our State. In last November’s election my vote wasn’t counted.  Our democratic rights to vote are enshrined in the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment and one-person, one-vote principle in the 15th and 19th Amendments.  However, the States have enacted a winner-take-all method for allocating electoral college members.  This arcane practice abridges my rights and the rights of millions of others to have our votes counted fairly and equally.  The Supreme Court found in Bush v. Gore that, quote: “the right to vote... is fundamental; and one source of its fundamental nature lies in the equal weight accorded to each vote and the equal dignity owed to each voter.”  What are you going to do to uphold the equal rights of your citizens and the constitutional rights of our State? I want you to make our state file suit in Federal court against other States to overturn the winner-take-all laws and make our votes count.
